Safety & age policy
How we keep sessions safe, and the rules that apply to every person who takes part.
No ammunition, ever
SimFire Academy is a mobile simulation operation. We use non-lethal airsoft replica pistols and rifles fitted with infrared laser barrels and attachments. They are full size and full weight, the trigger and controls work as they should, and the action cycles under recoil — which is precisely what makes the training transfer. What they cannot do is chamber or discharge a live round.
No ammunition of any kind is carried by us, held at a session, or permitted at one.
Under-18s must be supervised
SimFire Academy must comply with current UK law regarding the use of airsoft replicas by minors. Therefore anybody under the age of 18 years old must be supervised whilst using one by an appropriate adult.
Minimum age 12
We at SimFire Academy have set a minimum age of 12 years old for participants. This is in line with the majority of other sites currently operating in the UK. However, they must have a parent or guardian with them during their allotted time slot — not dropping off and collecting, but present throughout.
On the range
- Every session begins with a safety brief. Nobody handles equipment before it.
- An instructor is present for the whole of your session.
- Range commands are followed immediately and without discussion.
- Equipment is only ever pointed downrange at the projection surface.
- We set the shooting area out on arrival, and its boundaries are not crossed during a session.
- Anyone who cannot follow the safety rules will be asked to leave, without refund.
Equipment damage
Any damage to equipment or related equipment must be paid for. This is a condition of entry for all clients. Where a parent or guardian is supervising a person under the age of 18, that adult is financially responsible for any damage caused by the minor.
Dress
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in and closed-toe footwear. Sandals and open shoes are not permitted in the shooting area.
Venues
We are a mobile operation and do not have our own premises, so sessions run at a venue of your choosing. Any hire arrangement must be made with the venue owner's permission. We will always tell you honestly whether a proposed space is suitable and safe to run in — if it isn't, we won't run there.
